My Sunshine Senegal died suddenly October 22nd. I had gone away over night, left everyone with extra food, water and toys. I had done it before without problems. When I got back, I couldn't find Sunny. Usually she flies to me, scolding and upset.
I tore the birdroom apart. Two hours of searching. I was frantic. I was gathering the trash I had dragged out of the corners and under the cages, and there she was, hidden in the corner of the trash can, hidden under a discarded bag. She didn't react to my voice, my touch, nothing. Sunny was breathing, blinking her eyes, could move her head, wings and legs. But she didn't react to me. She had bite marks on her right wing and under her right eye. I rushed her to the vet.
Dr Stern said she had been beaten up and had a probable head injury. Her crop was completely empty. Linda did everything she could for Sunny but she had a seizure and died six hours after I took her in. Linda said probably Oscar RBP wanted her to mate with him and when she refused, beat her. She hid from him in the trashcan.
Eighteen years and she is gone. So many things I could have done to prevent her death... Sunny is gone.
