Yet the vet has done nothing to empirically rule out infection, in a bird at high risk for infection and going rapidly downhill. Vets aren't always right, especially if they lack avian-specific training.

Baytril is generally well-tolerated too, and it's the preferred antibiotic for pasteurella, which is the primary risk from a cat contact.

Agreed. My red belly somehow had pasteurella in his culture, no cat contact and it cleared up with two weeks of baytril.

Sorry, this may just be me misreading this, but is your mom refusing the antibiotics for financial reasons? Or is the vet refusing the prescribe the medications? Because if this is a financial issue, then now would be the time to offer using some of your money (assuming that you have not already, that is).

I'm also a little surprised that they didn't x-ray Kiwi during your first vet visit. If Kiwi had been in the cat's mouth, the I would have immediately checked for internal injuries...

Hang in there. As hard as all of this is, don't give up on Kiwi. She needs you.

Just read this whole thread, I feel this vet failed you that Kiwi should have been given antibiotics. proud you did what you could in convincing your mom to take kiwi to the vet. I am so sorry for your loss. Such a tragedy and I understand it must have been so hard feeling so helpless with a very uncooperative vet.
