Are they thinking it's a spinal cord injury then? What are they doing to treat it? Is she being given antibiotics?

They're thinking it's just a muscle injury, since she can move her neck, but she's choosing not to. IDK about the antibiotics

Poor, poor Kiwi. Are their any other physical injuries other than her neck?

I'm so hoping that she can pull through this. I'm thinking of her and you all of the time.

She's in an incubator, and IDK about meds. She's still on the painkillers, and they did a thorough check and found no puncture wounds or scratches, so I don't think she's on antibiotics :/

Have they done bloodwork to confirm no infection then? Assuming that there is no infection because they cannot see puncture wounds is grossly negligent.

I am sorry that the vet won't listen to you. You are doing everything possible.

Since you are the owner if you insist upon it they will probably give her antibiotics. It could be a minute invisible scratch. I know my vet gives my birds antibiotics for any kind of injury, even a bleeding toe from a bird bite. Like why take a chance.

If they can't confirm that there is no infection, then it is ridiculous to not give antibiotics.

My vet charges a fee to consult with an avian vet who also charges a fee. But you get a second and third opinion that way. The new vet and your current vet can look at the X-rays and discuss the situation.

My mom has asked them twice for antibiotics and they said it wasn't safe. Apparently they really take a toll on birds?

No, they don't. That statement alone suggests incompetence in treating birds.

Yes, some antibiotics are very harsh on birds. Especially as weak as yours seems to be.

Is this an avian vet or a dog and cat vet who also sees birds?

Not all, though. Not even most. And prescribing them, even to a weak bird, is better than risking that bird dying of a treatable infection.

Seriously. They have asked - twice - for antibiotics. The vet does not feel that's what is needed at this time.

Piperacillin is a mild antibiotic. When my Quakers foot was fractured and he needed daily shots, my vet gave him that one.
