The other day one of my flighted babies flew right into a pot of soup
(It was not cooking anymore just sitting out after dinner thank goodness)
He seems totally fine and injury free but his feathers are all oily and stiff and he can’t fly because of how messed up they are
He also stinks like soup

I tried warm water (in a well heated room)
And it didn’t seem to do much.

You will need a very gentle dish liquid (most members here use dawn dish soap) to get the gunk out of the feathers. You want to dilute the soap in a good amount of water and carefully wash your bird (make sure no soapy water gets in eyes, nares or mouth) and rise it well to remove all soapy residue. If your weather is cool at the moment then remember the importance of letting your bird dry off properly in a warmer draft free area.

Have you seen how wildlife care workers treat penguins and other birds affected with oil spills? If not maybe google it or search Youtube for it and try to wash your bird in a similar manner.
