For the last two weeks, I've kept Java's carrier in sight so he can get used to seeing it. He still hates it but his foot is still very raw and I want to get him off of it before it worsens. I'm tempted to just put him in it tonight and hope he eventually adapts but he refuses to get off his foot. Help!

Try leaving it open & put his favorite treats in it or toys

He won't voluntarily leave his cage

Well you have to work on getting him to feel comfy to come out of his cage first then.

Not a fan of forcing birds to do things unless there is a urgent safety or medical reason.

Neither am I but by the time he gets comfortable enough to leave his cage, his foot will probably be worse.

Can you try to set up his cage so its easy on his feet?
If you have to take him out & put him in a carrier once to make the changes then thats ok.
Can;t see forcing him into a carrier every night though as he probably would not sleep well anyway.

The only other option I could think of would be removing all of his perches and hope he doesn't decide to hang on the side of the cage. I want to make this as easy as possible for him

Does his crate fit in his cage?

Try putting it in the corner of his cage, then? He may chose to use it himself.
I don't know why I never thought of that. Should I put him in it after its been in his cage for a while?

I'm not sure, personally. Most of my birds go and investigate things I put in their cages after they get used to it. I mean, he's a former breeder bird, right? He might think it's a nestbox and start sleeping in there himself.

Yes he is but he's also afraid of everything

I set mine up on a table with toys and treats. I showed Rupert the treat, let him get close, and then put it in the carrier. He chose to go in bit by bit. He likes to play in and on it now.
