How to edit/write name on photo?

I was wondering how people edit photos to say their name or company in that transparent type print? I wanted to write my name on some photos I took ...Nicole LeVasseur Photography but cannot figure out how to do it???

I think you can do it with Photobucket or Gimp.

I have the gimp program but I cant figure out how to make the text transparant...?

I don't make mine transparent

but i use Corel PhotoShop

I had to start doing it on mine, because Some "breeder" used a picture of my 2 blue Quakers, trying to pass them off to be their own birds - They said their friend has them, he sent the picture to them. He is the breeder they get the babies from him and hand feed them and sell them, YET where this "friend" lives Quakers are against the law to own

he took the picture from the internet, the picture still had the website address he got it from - which was a picture I put in Parrot Chronicles Picture contest!

so i had to start "watermarking" all my pics and it is annoying and a lot of times I forget

but I know my birds, I know my pictures and if I find them again being used w/out my permission This time I'll do more than just call and rip em' a new one

I downloaded some brushes for gimp, and stamped a few onto a transparent background, to make an interesting design (with varying levels of opacity) then I pout the text I wanted on top of the design at 100% opacity. I saved it as a Gimp brush so it's very easily accessible. Now I just low the opacity of the brush as a whole when I put my watermark on pictures.
