How many almonds per day?

I'm wondering how many almonds you guys give your (flighted) greys on a daily basis. How many is too much and how many is not enough. :huh:

Emma gets 2.5 per day..
If she's been especially sweet.. sometimes 3.5 almonds per day.

That seems reasonable to me. Six seems high, but that's just my opinion. I guess it depends on the bird and the rest of its diet.

5 or 6 per day does seem pretty high imho expecially if you factor the rest of the diet throughout the day. :huh:

I give them one every time I have to put them away as it's the only thing that holds their attention so I don't get eaten alive :lol:

So I'd say probably 4-6 a day is what my birds get.

Almonds are low in fat and a good source of calcium. Bitter almonds are said to have some cyanide in them but the sweet almonds do not. Almond butter is a favorite treat around here.

Bea is not overweight. She has a high metabolism with all that reproductive activity

I honestly don't think 6 is bad if you have a healthy active bird who eats a well balanced diet.

I'm an almond lover myself, so if I'm eating them, so are the birds.

Honestly .. I don't count. The Macs are the only birds who really go nuts :hehe:

for almonds, and they're so hyper I really can't see them getting fat from them.

I buy the plain unsalted almond slivers packaged for salad toppings to make them go further. I know for sure Lola is upset with me when she throws her almond sliver back at me, LOL.
