As the title states. I have a head of broccoli in the fridge, for the millipedes, and I was thinking of offering some to Chirp. But I want to know how longs it's okay to have in the fridge to give to the bird. It's been there a few days now.

If you store it in the crisper it may last 4 to 5 days but don't wash it first. Wash just before serving. Washing shortens the freshness

It's just in the regular part of the fridge. Guess I should pick up some fresh stuff then.

Broccoli tends to go a little yellow on the little flower bits and smells funky if it is no good. It sometimes starts to get a little mushy/slimy where it has been sitting or touching the bag.

Still looks pretty good. Although I never have been good at id-ing foods past their time, lol.

Restuarant trick, wash it, cut the stem new at the bottom and store in a vase type container with water, ..like a bunch of flowers...itll last a couple weeks,

Just be sure to change the water frequently.

Ooh that's so fancy! I'll have my dad pick up a new head when he's at the store, along with some other stuff maybe (I'd like to get Chirp to try veggies, he won't touch them with a 10 foot pole right now). I'll have to try that trick!

I have some canned pumpkin, do you think he might like some of that? It's just straight pumpkin, nothing else other than water in there.

If it smells like feet, don't use it

I stock up on pumpkin puree this time of year. GREAT to use in bird breads or to feed as is with a bit of cinnamon

I usually go by the firmness and smell. I pick very firm broccoli and when it starts getting bendable/pliable instead of snapping when you pick off florets, it's getting to be too old.
