Been fretting a bit these last two weeks as my work contract ended. Logical thing to do was move back to my house, a 12 hour drive, and avoid flat rental

But with Cha Cha on eggs? Or tiny chicks?

But all resolved this morning. Have a new contract to take me through Xmas.

What a relief. No moving Cha Cha.

And we're now at D day minus 1 for potential chicks.

I'm hoping for two chicks. Fingers crossed

Vid asap. Mama is VERY protective at present. She was disturbed the last time she had chicks ( nest invasion by flockmates) and abandoned both chicks so Im not taking chances.

I already know what a caique chick looks like lol

She may relax in a day or two. probably the weekend

Trying not to get too excited. Shes still practising how to do this, and many things can go wrong.

Probably for the best that I am on my second day in a new job and cannot stay near her fussing like an old hen myself

Fingers is the most relaxed of all of us. Hes like 'Whats up Doc?', no sweat. Lets hit the beach!

My bird carer says Cha Cha waited till I came back from London before she started her family. Only then did she relax.

There's some truth in that. But her move to another very quiet isolated environment with no other birds round is the main reason

I wish I could get my cockatiels to stop laying eggs. And hatching them. Cookie Monster hatched four this year. Two with one male and two with another cock! All the cocks chase her and sing to her. She has found the most out of the way place to bird her eggs. Once the chick hatches, I can't do anything but raise them. I have to say I had two lace wing babies, one Golden pearl and one normal. Beautiful, but I don't need more birds!

Sigh... I would love to raise a cake chick. They must be quite an adventure to keep. When is the next egg due to hatch?
