My name is Diana and I'm new to this forum, but I’ve been a bird owner for over 25 years. I had a maroon belly conure for 19 years. His name was Paulie (yes, after the movie). He died tragically 4 years ago. He was afraid of flying and was easily spooked. One evening he was sitting on my shoulder, got spooked and flew head first into the stove. Within ten minutes he was dead. I was devastated and it took me six months of crying to come to terms with the loss. In the meantime I also had a zebra finch named Dixie who Paulie would terrorize and Dixie would hiss at him quite loudly for a tiny bird! Dixie lived to be 10 years old (which is quite old for a finch) and passed this March. My home was lonely without Dixie’s singing so I bought another finch which I named Wilbur. A month ago I happened to start chatting with a woman who lived near my sister and she told me of a reputable bird store in Michigan. Long story short, I went in and fell in love with a two month old green cheek conure who I just brought home today. His name is Peco.
I guess I’m destined to have two birds because it seems to have worked out that way the last 10 years.
I have loads of experience with both finches and conures and would be happy to share any knowledge that I have about the breeds, and I look forward to learning more from all of you.
