Hi my name is Janie I have adopted a sickly emaciated plucked bald cata blue macaw 2 months ago. His beak was grown over his bottom beak only got to eat what he could get to stick to his tongue. He is starting to grow feathers and starting to try and flap his wings. I am the only one that can touch him however he does have days where he is just angry and cage aggressive.
I also adopted a 7 yr old caique white bellied he is mean and sweet I don't know how to get this little guy to trust however I have only had him since sunday. I will be sharing photos of my beauties and asking for advise.

Welcome to AA. Thank you for taking the Macaw and Caique into your home. You did just get the Caique so be patient. You could consider removing the tent. Some of the tents aren't safe. Did the tent come with him or is this something you introduced?

Welcome Janie!

Thank you for caring about these amazing souls. They are so strong to learn to love and trust again when shown the worst.

Does your macaw have a name?

Welcome to AA and thank you for giving these two babies a home! It looks like you're doing really well with the Macaw. Caiques are definitely a little different from other birds. Just be patient, he'll probably come around!

Thank you for bringing these two into your heart and home. Your B&G must think he fell into paradise. He is coming along so very well. Your little cacique just hasn't been there long enough to know much about him.

Hi, and welcome!
And welcome to life with an adult Caique! First thing to start to control his aggression is to get those hormones under control. If he humps it, take it out! Caiques love a schedule, and love attention. Mine get 11-12 hours of sleep in a separate sleep cage in their bedroom (our guest room!). They respond VERY well to target/clicker training. Anything you can make an interactive game out of. A diet high in veggies and low in carbs and sugar will also help curb those hormones. It will take time—think of progress in months and years, but I think caiques are the best. They will give you back so much love. Give him lots to chew on. Mine love to destroy blocks of balsa, wood beads. Have a basket of foot toys and play with them and the bird together. Before you know it he’ll be bringing you his favorite toys and throwing himself on his back to get you to play with him!

Look at that poor little nekkid chicken! >.< They're so lucky to have been found by you.

The key for a frightened rescue is always patience, patience, and more patience. The process isn't really any different than any new bird, it just requires more time, and to be extra careful not to 'betray' their trust.
