Hello. My grandparents used to own Cockatoo's and from spending time with them I wanted a bird of my own one day. Now I am all grown up with two children of my own. A couple months ago we brought home Mister (he doesn't like to be called Tiny, which is the name he came with), a 12 year old Scarlet Macaw.Before he came home I was all over the internet looking for information on care and training to make sure I (or my children) didn't do anything to make him a mean bird, or that was unhealthy for him. I learned a lot from a lot of places and have been sifting through the knowledge to find what works for us. I am hoping that being here and being connected to other Avian parents will make finding answers much easier. Thank you for having me.

I forgot! In our home we also have a dog, two cats, three rats, a fish and my oldest has a cockatiel. We use to have ferrets but old age caught up with them....I love animals, in case you couldn't tell. lol

How are you doing with Mister in the house?

Mister is doing great most days but he gets nippy if he doesn't get enough sleep or if we get too many visitors. He tells me it's "night, night bedtime" when he gets tired. When we first paid for him (the pet store owner we got him from required us to have 2 months bonding time before he came home to make things less stressful and to educate me on basic care) he couldn't talk, he just clicked at people. I think we have come a long way in a short time but I think he also gets stressed when he can't communicate what he wants in a way we understand.

Welcome, how old were your pensioner ferrets? Just curious as mine were the oldest my vet had ever seen at 14 and 13 years old. Always good to hear of other ferret and bird lovers

This is a GREAT policy...the pet store here does the same thing....it makes tremendous sense to do so.

My ferrets only lived to be 6. One only made it to 3 but she was rescued from a factory so I didn't think she'd have an overly long life. I was told that 6 was a long life for albinos but his mate was very sad without him.
