My first attempt and making bird bread from scratch was a failure. I believe it was because of the type of flour I used. It was coconut flour and it was just too soft. All I got was soft crumbs and the budgies would not touch it. So I am continuing to do research and in the meantime using the pre made mixes sold on Amazon.

Coconut flour is really hard to work with by itself. You really only need a little to go a long way. I add a little to Harrison's bird bread with an extra egg to make it more bready vs cakey.

I used some of what you included but I am convinced it was the flour. On a FB group I just joined members are writing to use mainly spelt flour and then small amounts of other flours. I don't blame anyone but myself. Here are some more helpers from the group.

I have used almond flour and oat flour. And I must confess I have also used King Arthur flour. *gasp* I know I know. I like to bake bread, so I always have it around.

But normally the fids eat better than we do.
