Rhubarb celebrated the day by taking two pretty big chunks out of my very good friend. It was a rapid-fire chewing, with about 5-6 bites on one hand where she was perched and two on the other, which were coming to the aid of the first. And all this happens in a matter of seconds from a medium-sized too with a "small" beak.
I actually didn't even realize the severity of the bites until after she had put Rhubarb back on the cage. During the incident she had mentioned that Rhubarb was biting and afterward wandered off the the bathroom. I was under the impression it was one of the not-too-hard nips Rhibarb gives sometimes. It was a minute or so later when my friend asked if I could spare a bandage.
I went in and there was so. much. blood. ... She handled it like a friggin' pro. We got three bandaids on two fingers and stopped the bleeding. Rhubarb got to stay in her cage for the afternoon, where she couldnt wreak havoc on the flesh on my friends. Geez. I didn't know "human skin" was on the hatch day wishlist or I wouldn't have let Rhubarb out.
I'm thinking maybe it was hormones, being too excited because she's in love with fair-haired ladies, and the recent use of the T-stand by a bird-sitter may have created the perfect storm for a mauling.
