This is my first time posting.
I lost the love of my life today. Huginn was my first bird. He was a Green Cheek Conure I have had for almost 5 years. He was my lil sour patch kid.
I notice alittle bit of wheezing on Monday night. Called around Tuesday morning and made a appt with the first vet that had any openings, a mistake I will have to live with forever. At first she couldn't find anything wrong with him. She acted scared to be near him, I had to make her get close to his face to hear his breathing noise. She prescribed Baytril. I believe the doctor aspirated my baby. She jam a syringe down his thoart and press the plunger down fast. Giggle when he choke and cough the medicine up and told me when I give him medicine at home to do it more slowy. He vomited on the way home.
I called and made a appt at another avain vet when I got home for a second opinion. He was breathing alittle heavier after leaving the first vet and then I notice tail bobbing. The Avain Vet was booked but said they could squeeze me in today 3/22 in the morning.
By bed time last night his breathing was worse. I called are local emergency vets but no one had a avain specialist on staff. He slept on the bottom of his cage that night. We got him to the second vet but by then I knew my baby was not gonna make it. The doctor place him in a oxygen tank but without he could not breath on his own. She had offer other options for treatment, non that I can even remember right now, but said his chances where low. I did not want to stress him out any longer, I let my baby go.
The second vet said it could have been a number of things that cause him to be sick like that but said it sounded like Huginn aspirated on the medicine the doctor gave him. Huginn was normal on Monday and Tuesday morning other then a slight breathing sound he was making, playing and eating fine. I know birds hid illnesses sometimes until its to late. I am just so heartbroken after losing him I feel like I failed him.
I have a Blacked Capped Conure who loved Huginn and I worried he will become depressed. I had him taken to the vet today for bloodwork and a fecal just incase. Haven't gotten results but the Doctor said he is super healthy looking.
I just needed to write this down my minds a mess.
