Hubby found this on the patio, at the foot of the steps - at first glance we thought pygmy rattler, but with a closer look and Google, decided that it is an Eastern Hognose snake

They are non venomous and eat mice/rats, so we let him go :thumbsup:


He was only about 5-6 inches long, the first pic in looking down in a quart Ball jar

I am not a big 'snake person' but have learned to live and let live around them, as long as they are non-venomous


I thought he was pretty - he had puffed up trying to look bad and scary - we let him go as soon as we identified him :)

What a cute little Hognose. They are definitely one of the more adorable species of snakes with that little face of theirs. I'm happy that you let him go on his merry way. Wonder if you'll see him around again.

Hognoses are cool little snakes. I like how they flatten their neck like cobras and roll over and play dead. :)
