The hardest part of taking on a rescue seems to be letting go. I have in the past taken on birds whom are known to have a short time left due to many issues mostly from poor care and diet with liver and other issues.
Sophie was our last girl we took in and after noticing her beak growing in at odd angles we took her into the vet and she was diagnosed with Liver Disease. We kept her happy and comfortable for the year she was with us. She really bloomed- her flights and tail feathers grew back, she was outgoing and confident in her flying at the end and she really enjoyed zooming around the house.
It is quite around here with her "Diego" "Hello Diego" "Good Diego" though she finally said "Hello Sophie" 2 weeks before her passing so that was a huge highlight.
She had a recheck with our avian vet scheduled for the next day but sadly she didn't make it.
Sophie joins some of our other rescues in the Rainbow Bridge where I know she is flying free. RIP my beautiful girl (at least i think you were a girl).

Sophie sounds as if she was already home and loving it (and you) before finally crossing Rainbow Bridge. Sad as it is and as short a time as it was, you know she was happy and thriving in spite of being ill. One could not hope or wish for a happier ending to her illness. You loved her. :sadhug2::sadhug2::sadhug2:

Yep, it's very sad but great at the same time. She was happy and actively having fun right to the end so you did good and she'll be waiting for you at the bridge. :sadhug:
