Good progress with my feather barber

So, my bird Flynn began barbering his feathers almost 3 weeks ago or so, and is a really heavy barber.

However, he is improving, and not just because he's running out of feathers.
He was started on Baytril and Metacam, because of suspected infection, I got him loads of balsa and cork to chew, made some more foraging toys for him to enjoy, removed the newest items from our living room, got him a UV lamp, figured out that he prefers background noise like the TV on most of the day, and made flock blocks to keep him occupied and happy during cage time...
At his worst, he barbered dozens of feathers in a day. Now, every so often he'll snip one or two off. Now hopefully, infection is the root of this, and we can get this habit kicked!

I love this little bird, feathers or no feathers. 20161012_154211.jpg

Glad to hear he is improving. My GCC, Cricket is a young barber too and I know it is frustrating but I love him, grey chest and all and they do grow back. Hope you have hit the cause and don't have any repeats.

Oh, me too. Hopefully once he molts, they'll come back in and stay there.

His little tiny drumsticks are really flippin' cute, though.

So here's what I'm hoping is good news: He finally has some pin feathers growing in, and doesn't seem to be messing with them!:dance4:
That's progress, right? 20161027_195336.jpg

That is good news! Now, fingers crossed he leaves them alone and they all come in again.

I often worry about Pilo ending up doing same... It's one of the reasons why I try to keep his mind engaged as much as possible!
Sounds like you are doing wonders for your fid! Hope all goes well for you both! God Bless! :)

Boy did he ever go to town on his feathers, poor little dude. But it's great that getting that infection cleared up seems to be doing wonders for him. His little fluffy tummy is super cute, barbered or not.
