I figured I would be taking a little hit on the shipping just so people could try out my toys.

Exactly. When I offer free shipping, I pay the shipping. I dont raise my prices to offer free shipping. When I have a sale, it is truely a sale and I make less profit. It's called promotion and giving people a little break once in awhile.
