My big boy gave me a scare on Sunday. Yes. Happy Birthday mom.
His wings have been getting black on them, but they are not stress bars.
They are on the edges. I put a call into my vet, but being Sunday, their office was closed, so planned to see what information I could find, and it wasn't looking good.
Everything seemed to point to liver disease UNTIL I saw the next paragraph.
I hadn't noticed this before, but they can get black on the sides of their feathers before they start a molt.
Well, sure enough, Frankie is having a big molt. So much so that he's only wanting to sit with his mommy and get kisses and attenrion.
His "toy" has been getting left by his play hut and he's been spending time either with me or on his cage platform. He's due to see his vet in a couple of weeks for a nail trim, so I will get him checked out then.

It is called bronzing. Burts sometimes do it before they get dropped but not always.

I'm glad it's just because of molting. He is so handsome. Blue and golds just have the best faces!

No worries as long as it isn't excessive and persistent as it is merely bronzing.
Happy birthday indeed and well wishes to a nice molt and new healthy comfy feathers.

I have been told by a grandson that I have a worry wall in my brain.

I think it was built shortly after the amazons arrived.

Thank you so much Sarah. It was mainly his wing feathers and a few on his back. Enough to make mummy me panic until the next morning when I saw loads of feathers on the cage bottom. :)

No worries at all.
Yes, primary flight feathers usually have it the most prominently.

Thank you for clarifying that Sarah. :)
He just wants to hang out with me lately instead of his beloved toy. I'm loving it tbh. :)

Oh I am indeed. Dolly isn't, but she's always been jealous when I spend time with Frankie.
I sneak in during the day when she's playing by herself, then at night once hubby's home to keep her occupied. :)
