Some of our koi. There's eight or so left in the pond after a heron had a very expensive dinner of 15 fish two years ago. We added a couple cat fish but only one survived. Can't get a good shot of it because it is so dark, but it's a whopper.

The winter snow and ice has torn the net pretty badly. I put the branch on the biggest hole so another heron would not come by looking for a snack. The Chesapeake is nearby; go eat there!

Its beautiful! Amazing that your lilies are still green after the winter. You've got great colors on the koi.

Wow, thank you! They are awesome and gorgeous! I cannot believe how a heron can eat them. Were they small? The ones I saw at the show were bigger than a thigh :wideyed: I am so sorry they were eaten. :(

We had a chance to get a bunch more on Freecycle, but I was not about to introduce new fish whose health I knew nothing of. I ask a lot of questions and when someone is giving something away, it might not be the mannerly thing to do. I like our pond just as it is---except for the leak! We'll have to get someone out to look for it. We can't see any leaking areas. I hope to God the bottom of the liner isn't torn. We can't rebuild this pond AGAIN. :sour:

Most fish do not have a 'maximum size' limitation built into their DNA; especially if they are predators. Koi is one of those fish who can just grow and grow... Your fish are wonderful, Terri.

I guess we had better not get any more!! The guy who looks after our pond had two big giant fish and the dumb things flung themselves out of his pond and died. His pond is hidden by trees, so herons don't see it.
That all-orange one in the back of a photo 5 is named Bubba. The white and orange on in the same photo at the bottom - I think that's either George or Herman.
