Are foam building blocks safe for the fids?

Howard has chewed up a couple and is no worse for the wear.

my vet told me not to give them to my birds becouse if they digest it the foam just sits in the crop and can cause alot of problems they cant pass it and it can kill them i guess the best thing is to know if you birds eat it or swollow it either way i wont take no chances its just not worth it to me
