I finally got a good look at his feet and it appears that more likely Momma bird chomped on the poor baby’s feet. Now that he is a little older I can see that they are not fixable. If it becomes painful later on, surgery will be an option, but he doesn’t seem to bothered right now. It’s unlikely he will be able to perch, but he can walk, so not too concerned. Just want him to have a happy life. 5DAB57BB-A3E8-4EC5-8FDD-5652835D18A0.jpeg A62CF0AE-A0FB-415B-8A19-D138B3EE2D7F.jpeg

He’s had an almost miraculous growth spurt over the week and his toes no longer seem to be bothering him. I’m very excited. While I believe he still may have issues in the future - I am now hopeful he will be able to perch. I will continue to visit every weekend until he’s ready to come home. His new name is Durin. The breeder will start using it so Durin will 240BE3B6-B494-4EE0-97D5-46923DBDFAF8.jpeg know his name before he gets “home.”

:bounce4:Thank you. It wasn’t a very hard decision. I think I was probably lost the first time he looked into my eyes lol. I am definitely staying away from the other baby as I have already bonded with Durin & I refuse to take home 2-babies :excited1:

Once we pick him up it will be straight to the vet for a checkup, microchip & hopefully Polyoma vaccine. I’m super-excited since the big day is almost here!

Well I was told the name may change and we are now on the last iteration. Her name is Sif. No, we’re not positive except for she has remained petite, despite eating like there’s no tomorrow, her head and beak are more rounded and delicate. She/he will have a DNA test done next month so eventually we will know for sure but with the name being Sif we know that it could be used for either. She is growing quite nicely and I hand fed her the first softened food that she has ever had. She ate her gooey pellets like a champ a little piece at a time. We are hoping that she will be home in the next week or two. Peace out. 382A3B10-3F13-4371-90F1-7DC8C04F199B.jpeg C854106D-1B92-41A7-AD64-A4C8B19A5EA0.jpeg

Thanks Fia! We are looking at possibly bringing her home next Saturday and her vet appointment is scheduled for Monday. In spite of her toe damage she can perch on the side of a cardboard box so I have no doubt that she will be able to perch on a regular perch eventually. Gearing to do more than coo, cuddle and take pics after this week :roflmao:

The one thing I've found to be 'reasonably' accurate in guessing the sex of a baby short of DNA results, is looking at their under-tail feathers. Females will 'usually' have a delicate silver edging on the feathers, while males do not. (I used to belong to a now-defunct large African Grey forum, and every member whose bird was DNA-sexed who looked, fell in line with this.) This is a pic from my last DNA-sexed female CAG:

Male or female, Sif is cute as a button! (I'm such a sucker for those big black baby-grey eyes!)

As I said in the other thread, I very much doubt s/he will let bad toes slow her down in the slightest!

@NirAntae - I haven’t lifted her up yet. We’ve just been let her stay in the box while I bond with and feed her. I will say her tail is more multi-hued than the other bird who is without a doubt male. Very blocky head, beak and 2x the size of Sif but 5weeks younger.:omg:

Well it is Saturday for sure and while we had a little bit of an oops at the vet office - Sif will still be seen on Monday the 3rd. I’m very happy there are so many different forums here as I have found helpful information on prepping her home. I would never have thought to use vet wrap to make the perches “stickier” which in her case will be a definite plus. Sif still has to work pretty hard at closing her right foot. I’m hoping that perch training and more room to move about will strengthen it to where it’s not a concern. :fairy2:

EF1E84BC-A615-482E-9F16-C9EEFC86EB57.jpeg I’ve found the coolest thing on Amazon and if others are aware - your way ahead of me. They now make pet heating pads. They are waterproof, have a digital thermostat that mimics real temp and steel wrapped cords to keep the babies from chewing on it. It’s absolutely excellent and Sif will have a nice toasty pad by the time she gets home. 3 days to go wooohoooooo!!!

:blink:I will say visiting every week has definitely helped. She fell asleep easily under my hand and settled immediately. Her beak is always feather soft and she adores being “cuddled.” Im anxious to get her to the vet tho. Besides her feet there is a potential nasal/nare issue. It’s aggravating but the wait is almost over. Her vet appointment is scheduled for the 10th at 10am.:bash::bash::atomic:
