Anyone have any idea what bird dropped this feather my friend found in the city (Philadelphia)? All I can tell is it's a flight feather... maybe falcon or hawk?

After checking out a few of the feathers on that site Kathy shared - the closest one I've seen is a falcon.

It's a really neat feather though!

It really is! I tried Googling different variations of 'hawk flight', 'falcon flight' when I posted the pic, but I'm really thrown by the brown of the shaft. Every flight feather I've seen for local hawks and falcons are white. Very intriguing. And in center city Philadelphia, no less. Thanks, guys. :D

Ooh--how sure?! I figured it was more likely to be falcon/hawk being the city, but it did seem turkey-ish to me... but I'm not sure how a turkey feather would end up in the city... unless it's from an arts and crafts project or something... !?

The plot thickens...

Pretty sure....we used to pick them up all the time when we rented a place in the country as kids :) Not sure how it ended up in the city though LOL that is a different puzzle!

 Watch out if it is a hawk or falcon feather. They're illegal to own unless you're a native american since they're used in various religious and cultural celebrations. So I wouldn't go waving it around or asking Fish and Game what feather it is if you really suspect it's from a migratory bird.
