Hi all,
I found the best vet in all the world about 10 miles away, or so I've been told. She used to be the local Little Rock's Zoo vet and is now in her own practice.
Farlie is doing everything in slow motion. He eats, plays and acts odd but all in slow motion. He'll sit on his perch, fluffed up, scrunched down with his head down and seems to be dreaming of other lands staring off into never never land. He'll, every so often flinch his wings suddenly.
His poops look normal and he's not sniffling, coughing or sneezing. He just looks ill. Poor little baby.
I have an appointment for next week.
Any suggestions from you guys?

Wish you could find someone who could see him today.

I’ll second the hope for a quicker appt. keep him warm. When mine aren’t well, I up the protein. Eggs or baked chicken.
And increase omega fatty acids with extra walnuts. Mine see these things as treats so if nothing else it keeps them eating.

I also encourage increased fluid intake by adding just a little organic apple juice to their water. Never underestimate the power of an apple.

So sorry that he is ill. See if you can get him in to the vet sooner than next week. Agree with keeping him warm and letting him rest. Make sure that he is eating and drinking.

Hope Farlie gets better soon! If they can’t get him in sooner can you ask the vet for tips on what to do to help until they can get him in? Based on his behavior they may have an idea on things that may help.

Is there a 24 hour bug that birds get? It doesn't appear to be a life threatening illness but I'm no vet. Farlie is showing signs of feeling a little better on his own. I'll go buy some apple juice and I am keeping him warm, but quiet? Not a chance. Farlie is a very active bird and he still wants to play... only slowly.
What else do you guys suggest?
There isn't a vet any closer then about 3 plus hours away and most everybody closes at noon on Saturdays.
This is Arkansas ya know. VERY very backwards. :yes3:
Thanks all. :)

Usually by the time you're seeing symptoms, it's best to go in as soon as you can. What day is the appointment?

Please don't ask. :sad14:
She's on vacation till Tuesday and won't be back to work till Wednesday at which time she is booked solid. :sad9:
(Only avian vet for many many miles around, I'm afraid. )
As I mentioned above, Farlie appears to be feeling better. :dancing: He's not as grouchy and grumpy and is getting around in his cage better then before. :)

I ground half an egg with all the shells and added apple juice to his water. (about 1/2 and 1/2) He loves that!
His poops still look good. No diarrhea or anything.

OK, Rick remember when Riti got sick? If I'd waited a week it'd been 5 days to long. Find a vet that can see Farlie ASAP...like today. Please.

He seems fine but not himself, really. Sorta like running on 7 cylinders. :D
I'm wondering if he's ill cuz he's been 'eating' my wet lips? (Saliva?)

Human saliva can very much make a bird sick. I would stop allowing that to happen and don't share food (if you do that). I'm fairly certain I made Sherbie sick one time by doing that. :(
