Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place. I have a Indian Ringneck. We have started to get the big house spiders in the house. Last year I used pepper mint oil in a water spray to keep them away. (I didn't see any so I think it worked or the spiders just didn't want to come in). My question is, is it safe to use in the same room as my parrot? I want to use it in the windows and door. My parrot dosnt hang out in the window or the door he sits on the other side of the room. Thank you

EOs are a general bad idea when it comes to birds. You could spray it outside of your house, but definitely don't spray, diffuse, burn anything inside the house.

Most essential oils are unsafe for birds, as well as any kind of aerosol sprays. I would avoid using them anywhere you keep your bird.

Definitely not safe.

Even though your bird sits on the opposite side of the room the EO's are quite potent and their smell will make it through your home causing irritation to your birds respiratory system, the scent can also be harmful in other ways such as being a stimulant or worse.

This little snippet is from a quick google search and shows some of the effects it can have on humans... Due to its stimulant properties, using Peppermint oil daily could interfere with sleep patterns. The following symptoms can also be the result of overdose: skin rashes, urinary problems, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, slow or rapid breathing, convulsions, depression, and in severe cases, unconsciousness.

Problem for birds is they are so much smaller than humans and they are much more sensitive to scents/contaminants in the air than we are so no one knows how much it would take for overdose to happen to a bird.
