Hi,
For the last 3 days Rio has been already out in the mornings. We both say "did you put him up?" And we both are fairly sure we put him up.

Are they known for escaping?

Tonight he's up for sure for sure.

Can you set up a video camera in the room to see what he is doing? You may have to add padlocks to his cage doors.

Yes they are known for escaping. I have one guy who can open the latch on his cage from the inside, then fly out and play in the avairy, which is s shock if you walk in with food and he zooms out over your head.

I have another male who learned how to open a nestbox inspection hatch. The boxes are attached to the outside of the cage. He can open the hatch and climb in that way to play with his mates.

Theyre VERY smart

One day I looked out on the lawn where I had left three fully flighted babies in a cage in the sun.

They were ON TOP of the cage, playing happily!

AAAAAAAAAAARGH!

I've also heard of them being escape artists before. I would make sure all doors are latched well with a bird proof latch including feeder doors.

Joey removed the nut and bolt that secured the nest box door.
He popped that door open and made his escape.

Whooooa OK. That little rascal! LOL

We'll have to set up a camera. I guess he's been doing this for awhile and we each thought the other was leaving him out. He doesn't bother anything, it is his room. He goes up on the playstand and hanging toys and plays.

I don't want the plets to bite his toes though.

Zip ties (little hard to see them here)
He will try to chew them ....

Gap on his other cage (AA mediana)
While the vertical bar spacing is okay, there is that horizontal gap at the bottom of the cage that he was eyeing to assess if he could get out through it. I put up the the seed guard trays and that put a stop to that.

Wish you luck.

Our Tito's favorite thing to do is to test every bar on his cage. We have been saving for two large indoor aviaries. Right now they all fly free in their room. He's squeezed out of one side of his cage where the wires were slightly bent (we didn't notice) and he squeezed out. I caught him dancing on everyone else's cages (hopping/flying back/forth from to the other and singing) to show off how he could sing and dance outside just to irritate them. We got a smaller wired cage immediately but I still must use zip ties every evening when he goes to bed. *sigh*
