I was just about to start a thread asking if it was normal to shed such a huge piece of beak. Cause I know beaks tend to chip but I've never seen a piece this big hanging before. But before I finished writing out my post it fell off and looks good so I don't think we need to worry. :)

Well, it's actually got a tiny tinge of pink at the tip like blood. Very tiny. Is that something we need a vet for? He's eating fine and acting normal

It's not pink anymore but it's very thin at the tip now. I'm very reluctant to have a vet dremel it cause I know once you start you'll have to do it for the rest of their lives. Is this something to worry about? Sorry for spamming my own thread!

Maybe he bumped it on something but I think as long as he doesn't break it again, he'll be okay.

Pretty baby, don’t worry Mom, his beak looks like it will be just fine.

Wow that was a nice big chunk.

Burt gets some ripper flakes every now and then but never at the tip. That must have been such a worry for you.

I’m glad to hear it’s gonna be ok.

Blu is just so handsome :)

Thank you so much! When I got home yesterday his beak looked great and he ate wonderfully. I forgot to take a pic and he's sleeping now but, yeah, it seems to have been just a natural flaking. :)

Gizmo broke off a large thin piece of beak once and it was a bit sore for a few days but didn't bleed except a tiny bit. She was totally fine :)

Also I've never heard that once you start to dremel you have to do it the rest of their lives. Ripley came to me with a really overgrown beak. It was dremeled and he's been maintaining it himself since, even with a crooked beak :)

All of my birds have had a cosmetic dremel at least once in their lives!

Interesting! Well, I do apologize for spreading incorrect information! I'm not sure where I heard that but I do remember reading it somewhere. Can't always believe everything you read :o:
