I just caught Penny on the cage floor eating poop. Never seen it before. Not sure if she was playing but had big chunks on her beak so I put ice in her water so she would dunk for them & wash her beak..

I had just changed the paper & there was only one poop...wth???

:wtf:

I changed the water & a piece of cornbread was init. I guess some cornbread fell on the poop & she was attracted to it...Gosh!!

I have a vet well visit Monday June 11, should I try to get a earlier one?

I'm not sure what I see in her poop under a microscope...

Yeah...I think what happened is a piece of her muffin fell on it & she wanted it...
I found the chunk of muffin in the water...That was stuck on her beak with poop,

I knew she'd dunk for the ice so did that & the poop came off her beak with the chunk of muffin...

That was an am poop...

looked sort of similar to this poop very wet so am cutting down on the fruit. She has been eating it all day as much as she wants...I spoil her!

Poop june 4 P1030886.jpg

Going to restrict the fruit/carrots...trying to get her to eat pellets but so far all 5 of them are not to her liking, I did put some in the corn muffins so thought tht was good...

Relax. It won't kill her to have chewed on some dry poop. They've all done it at some point.

It was wet poop!!!! o_O

Looked like she was taking her corn bread morsel & smearing green salsa on it...:wtf:

I know but I am more worried about whats in the poop not just the act of eating it.

If she has something in her poop, then it's already in her system. It's not going to double infect her or anything

I know but I guess I'm just creeped out.

Just noticed the corner bark platform I got in SWS has some white sort of particles on it.

I just f10'd it. I stupidly just put it in the cage without baking or at least spraying f10 on it.
I have 2 of them & the other has a similar sortof white powder in a few small places so
will be scraping that for the side. I guess it could be some tree fungus/mold or even a tiny mite nest or something...

Darn I feel really bad now as I have been so careful. I just thought it was new but did not think it could have some pathogens on it. Still she has onlybeen on it a fews times & not recently.

I would back off on the fruits and wet stuff just to see if her poop becomes more solid.

When birds eat poop, they're lacking something, get some brewers yeast and sprinkle it on the food daily, the poop eating should stop in about a week.

Will try to make pellets more palatable. No brewers yeast available & not sure about giving yeast but I guess it has B vit. Imight as well let her have a sip of stout!

It also may have been a mistake as her corn bread fell into it...

poop june 5 P1030889 x.jpg

Will lookinto the brewers yeast...Have a vet exam Mon june 11....

Could try to get in tomorrow?

Interesting!!!
Stress, such as the sale and a new home can cause a bird to excrete in excessive amounts the water soluble family of vitamins and nutrients in his system.

So they sell it in health food stores? Whole foods? CVS???

What about this from Braggs...?
Bragg Premium Sodium Free Nutritional Yeast Seasoning, 4.5 OZ - Walmart.com

Bobs Red Mill Large Flake Food Yeast, 8 Oz - Walmart.com

Guess this one is best????

Kal - Nutritional Yeast Flakes - 22 oz. - Walmart.com

Imported Yeast Kal 7.8 oz Powder - Walmart.com

I wouldn't be feeding her any yeasts before taking her to the vet. If the vet does gram stains or a crop wash that will freak him out.

Just try upping her Vit A,K and D3 until after the vet appt.
