Urgent dove in the pool

Had a storm last night and a grey dove ended up in the pool. I have a new skimmer that has a handle that supposed to keep big things out, and it worked as the dove was stuck in it, with its head out of water. I got it out and it just laid there. I used a towel to move it into a more sheltered place. Now it is standing up half hour later but not moving. Is there anything else I should do? It just seems exhausted not injured. IMG_1443.JPG

Thank you for saving this poor bird. And how lucky that its head was caught up out of the water, too! I'm no help here, but I like to tag @Birdbabe for all the wild ones. Not sure when she'll be on, but there are other members who know about this sort of thing.

Til then, maybe a saucer of water and maybe some food, though I confess I don't know what doves eat. :o:

Looking through some of the Softbill Circle threads, it looks like doves eat seeds.

Bless it's heart - probably exhausted from being in the water and holding it's head up!

Birds have warmer body temp then us. Maybe a heat lamp or warm light to atleast dry off.

Maybe something to eat, if you have any finch food or millet, something will help giving it some energy.

Thanks for saving this dove!

Thank you! I did put some millet out and it did eat some as I watched through the window. I am in the desert so it was already quite warm here and it dried out fast. It's now up in the tree, seems to be making a full recovery. :yahoo:
You did it! Thank you!

Great that you were able to retrieve the dove from the pool and that he/she is OK.

I’m so glad the dove seems okay, and I love that you have that skimmer!

Or a heating pad set on low under it. The wild dove mix I have looks like it has safflower, millet, milled oats (possibly hulled sunflower seed?), corn and milo (sorghum).

I meant hulled oats.

They do remember.

Years ago in Uruguay, we'd saved a hummingbird that had flown into the garden wall when it was blinded by the glare off the wall. Once he was well enough to see and fly again he was released. My mother would tell us that early in the morning there'd be little hummer sitting in the sun on the paved courtyard.
