I decided to go ahead and take Doby to his old vet here. The treating vet who treated him at his attempted rehome suggested he be seen in 4 weeks....like I would really wait that long.
He had lost 25% of his body weight and weighed 330 with a full crop. Today he weighed 425 with a full crop. YOOHOO! He did cultures to make sure nothing is showing up and a gram stain, will get results later.
It will take time to get him back the way he was when I rehomed him, happy, healthy and trusting.
My baby almost died of E-coli, spent a week in an incubator getting injections everyday. It will take time for him to fly again, something we worked on daily. He is 17 and never flown before this past year. Now his flights are gone and he is full of black stress marks on his feathers.
He is eating his great healthy chop but even though I am not a pellet person I realize he needs something to help him regain his strength and is easily digested. I would like to pass this on to people who have ill birds that need it. It was recommended to me by an Eclectus specialist but it is not specific to species. Harrisons Adult Lifetime Mash. It comes in powdered form you mix to the consistency of a porridge.
Make pureed papaya and mix it with the mash to help with digestion. I puree the papaya and pour into an ice tray and take them out to thaw one at a time. I credit this along with his all natural diet for him being on the mend as well as he is today. We aren't out of the woods yet but things are looking way better than 3 weeks ago
