I need some help. Look at this picture.

1. 12 weeks old.

2. 2 weeks ago. The beak seems dirty from porridge (I think) and dry too?

3. Today. New bathed but still dry/dirty.

I have try to clean it with coconut oil, (he don't like it at all) and the shower twice a week doesn't help enough so what to do?
He is eating lots of veggies and fruit everyday (he eats everything I give him, so lucky me!) so I don't think it's vitamin deficiency.
He is also eating a small amount of seed and pellets every day. Twice a week he gets sprouted pigeon mix and he eat herbs every day too.

I'm not able to see any trouble;
It seems to be a perfect beak, IMO;
Yes, it's true that there is a difference between the first picture and the other ones but it's also true that in the first picture your bird seems to be so young;
IMO, it's just a normal beak, if you want, I can show you the pictures of the parrots that have a real trouble with their beaks.

Thanks! So you mean that the big different is age related?
And yes, I will see the pictures, I want to learn more about beaks. :)

Yes, the beak is just as a tooling; more and more they use it, more and more it will wear itself ;
thus you can provide him wood toys so he can use them to sharp and to perform the maintenance of the beak;

As for the weird beaks,I will show you some pics asap.

My former Amazon, Pedro, had a very dry beak and had lots of flakiness. My vet suggested giving him safflower seeds daily (quarter of a tsp), and to give red palm oil twice a week. His beak and feet stopped being so scaley and was more moist. Your boy looks good, however.

He is Centrofrecce,
he is 6 and he has this trouble for about 4 year;
More and more I cut his beak,more and more it grows up;
For this reason I had to decrease the frequence of cut between a cut and the next one;
I have to help him to eat because he is not able to eat of his own;
This a bird that has a trouble of the beak;

Try increasing the amt. of Vit. A in the diet. Red palm oil is a good idea. By Vit A I mean the orange foods like carrots, winter squashes and sweet potato are some of them.

Thanks! Eloy gets a lot of Vitamin A, B, C and D every day.
I don't know how to get Red palm oil in Sweden, but I'm using coconuts oil instead. Good or bad?

Can you tell me what is sprouted pigeon food? What are the ingredients?
Coconut oil is wonderful....we prefer it far more than red palm oil.

Eloy's Mum (I'm sorry, I don't know your name), you might want to give Eloy a little bit of oil in his diet that has a good amount of Omega 3 & Omega 6 fatty acids. Just a little (~1/4 teaspoon) twice per week, mixed into his cooked food. I use Hempseed Oil.
You might find Eloy will accept coconut oil mixed into cooked rice. I'm sure someone will be along soon that knows more about this than I do. If you can't get Eloy to eat any coconut oil, PM me & I'll help you get what you need. :)

This is pigeon seed mix:

Popcorn Corn, Wheat, Red Sorghum, Green Peas, Yellow Peas, Safflower, Yellow Millet, White Sorghum, Red Sorghum, Barley.
They say (in Sweden) that this seed is the best to sprout for parrots.

So coconut oil is better?

Marco - Your parrot's overgrown beak may indicate health issues if this is not normal. If you have not done so, I suggest going to vet to ask have testing done. This link may be informative.

Eloy - You may find this useful as well.

Thanks Maxsmom,
the bird in question has this "desease" for 4 years;
Everything is begun when he went to bump to the window glass;
The crash provoked the broken of the beak; really it never is healed since ever;
I have been compelled to take him to vet one time per month to trim his beak; however seeing what the vet did,I learned to do it of my own;
The bad thing is that the beak now grows up faster than at the past;
Its like if..more and more I cut it,more and more it grows up;
Said that, the bird is healthy,since he mated a lot of times and he is a father of 28 lovebirds (they are all healthy);
I have to help him to eat and I have to trim his beak;
Thus I consider it more a handicap rather than a true desease;

May I ask if the vet that you saw is an avian vet? Did he do any tests on organ function? I attached the link solely for informaition just in case you didn't have it. I am not an avian vet so I am not expressing opinion on the condition.

Glad to hear you are giving such attentive care with eating and trimming...and his colors are pretty. :hug8:

Your parrot Eloy's beak looks like normal pionus beak and the length is not too long. Pionus often seem to have a bit longer beaks but this is normal and as long as he has lots of soft wood to chew this will help to keep it a reasonable length. The pigeon mix looks like a good mix for sprouting and it is very nutrious for him.
