Hello!

I've had my Red Throat Conure (8 months old) for about 3 weeks now. When I first got him, he had a few red feathers just above his beak, but I didn't think much of it. However, these feathers have since turned black and have spread.

He's on Zupreme (undyed) pellets, bathes regularly, and preens often. He has a cuttle bone, gets a lot of variety in his diet (lots of grains, fruit, veggies, etc), and also regularly gets calcium-grit and sometimes egg shell. He's up to date with all vaccinations.

Here are pictures of his head:

So, any ideas what might be up, and how to help it?

Could your bird be rubbing his head on a colored wooden toy? Perhaps some of the dye on the wood is rubbing off the toy and staining his feathers.

Okay, I found out that, for some reason, his head was wet and just took a long while to dry.

I'll be investing in an aviansun bulb, anyways, just to be safe!

Thanks,
Pero and Gibs
