This evening when I was clipping vegetables on cages for each of the crimson clan Scarlette nailed me. Not picture worthy but she clamped on to my pointing finger and hung on. Definitely a bleeder. Little snot. She is fairly aggressive when I give the veggies and I have to give her a hand signal to back off along with a verbal sound. It always works but not tonight. She did back off but then made the quickest dash on her perch and nailed me. My first bite from her since she hatched here in 2009. It's always a concern for me to have any kind of injury even if it's small on my left hand. I had cancer in my lymph nodes which was removed when I had my breast cancer surgery back in 2001. One nasty little bug could slip through my lymphatic system and make me dog sick and end up in the hospital. It's been a very long time since I have had emergency stays at the hospital for severe systemic infections ... twice a couple of years apart. Five days on mega doses of antibiotics each time. Pain, swelling with lymphodemia.. oye! Please keep me in your thoughts for a few days to help ward off any evil spirit buggies. When it hits, it hits without warning. I know I should tell my hubby but #1... he'd be upset #2... He's a giant worry wart. I have a 10:00 am appointment with Emma for a dental cleaning tomorrow so at least I'll be around somebody medical... even if it is for animals. I'm going to be in tune with my body for any swelling or redness on my arm. I'll keep it clean and wrapped. ... and I'll be changing my protocol for feeding little Miss Holy Terror Scarlette. Typically, she's a nice girl, kisses my nose, climbed on me last night but she is vicious about me putting her veggies on. Birds can be weird. Sigh....

They have their own rules and reasons for anything they do and it has nothing to do with anything we think should happen. Sorry you got bit but I guess you broke one of her rules so of course a correction had to be made. :backout:

Her rule is : Don't touch my food! But I have to touch it to give it to her. It's just a food thing though because I do reach in for her to step up without problems.. but always with my right hand since I am right handed. I do need to use my left hand for some things. Otherwise she can be timid or outgoing when she wants to be. She doesn't look so mean in my avatar!

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry and hoping for the best. Such a worry. My mom had the same situation after her breast cancer.

    So so sorry.

MC doesn't like it when I use my left hand either.

Hope all goes well. Can you call your regular Dr and just get antibiotics now?

It really is. Having gone through these infections twice it is a big concern. So far... so good. I hate the hospital! The last time I was in there for four days when I broke my leg seven years ago. I remember sweating in my bed and my sheets were damp so I asked the nurse for dry sheets. You know what she did instead? She powdered the crap out of my sheets behind my back and butt with a crap load of baby powder!!!!! To help keep me dry? Ridiculous. I can't stand the smell of baby powder and hate dust even more!!!! I hate the hospital.

I know there are so many women who suffer greatly with lymphodemia. I am fortunate I've only had to suffer that a couple times. For others, their arms stay swollen and have to see therapy specialists for treatment and some have to live with their arms wrapped with compression bandages. I'm sorry your mom had to suffer this disease too.

We had asked my doctor for an ongoing prescription for antibiotics but he wouldn't write it because he didn't want me to take them unless it was absolutely necessary. The reason is the mega doses I was on when I was in the hospital. He doesn't want me to build an immunity to antibiotics. I wish it wasn't such a sudden onset of infection. The second time it happened I woke up sick, severe aching, my chest red down to my arm, swelling and I could barely walk. I had a clutch of baby green cheeks I had pulled for hand feeding. Luckily, my husband hadn't left for work so he could take me to the hospital. I had no choice or time to do much because I needed to be admitted asap. I crawled around, gathered my babies and as much as I hated to do it, I made a pit stop at a pet store that I knew had people experienced in hand feeding and left my babies there. As soon as I got out of the hospital five days later... I picked my babies up. From then on I used gloves to handle them for feedings and to this day use gloves for changing papers to avoid any infections. It was the main reason I quit raising.

Glad you're doing well so far.

As to the nurse..... I know a lot of nurses are overworked but I don't understand why they couldn't call for someone else to change the bed.
