Hi all

I use cress as a garnish on my canaries food acouple of times a week..I know Im ridiculously over the top..just like to give variation. They love it.

I was wondering if they can eat the entire content of the tub..routes and all and the cress seed husks. Ive been careful just snipping off the top?

Garden cress leaves and stems are edible, and the seeds are if they are cooked, but I couldn't find anything about the roots

Cress is grown very easily and can be grown in a very shallow dish..used to grow it as a child. .so very easy to grow. I used to grow it on wet cotton wool lol. When it sprouts it sends up very fine shoots and then tiny leaves appears. It has a very strong smell when cut..ideal for a garnish in sandwiches or salads. I feed the canaries water cress once a week too. Water cress is much bigger in leaf ..so much bigger scale growing it compared to the humble salad cress.

Thank Claire! I learned something new today.
I had blanched water cress with some noodles the other day, and thought it had a reallt nice flavor. I'll definitely give some to Peeps next time I buy fresh ones. I'll look into getting some cress seeds :)

I took a picture of the cress and the mixed pack I give the birds only once a week afterall I like the mixed salad too. Have to be sparing with the Spinach with canaries. I have also attached a food sheet which is quite interesting and explains more about the spinach.
