There were no birds at the feeders this morning. This hawk was hanging out in the tree above them. This is almost certainly the one that nailed a Eurasian Collared dove right over my head a week or two ago.

according to my bird book, 'Birds of North America', Cooper's Hawk are uncommonly seen. it's most likely a Sharp Shinned.

We have all sorts of Cooper's and Sharp-shinned both in this area. I'm leaning towards a Cooper's based on the shape of the end of the tail in the first photo.

I think sharp-shinned. At first I was leaning towards coopers, but the white tail marking seems too narrow and the body a little too stocky.

At the center I volunteer at we had what we called a "shoopers hawk". Nobody could figure out what it was. It had qualities of both...:cautious:

Such a magnificent, beautiful bird. It's hard not to admire the beauty of the birds of prey.

Incredibly so. They have such a regal, intelligent feel about them.

Immature coopers hawk IMO. Rounded tail shape, flatter head and the shins aren't sharp enough for a sharpy.
