The Cockatoos aren't the only ones looking for a cushy life and a handout. This is is my backyard two afternoons ago at about 3:30pm. This little gal Elk looks about 8 months old and isn't in very good condition, so I let her eat apples for awhile before I made her leave.

Cottontails (2), Pine squirrels, ground squirrels, Chicken Hawk, Sparrow Hawk, many many little birds, snakes (no rattlesnakes) and a damned Raccoon - the Elk don't get in very often. They stay in the front yard and eat my roses.

Those cockatoos in Australia are so smart! I think if anyone tried to give them lettuce as suggested, instead of the treats they are used to, you would have a cockatoo riot on your hands!

I can't imagine them taking to lettuce, but my backyard is certainly testament to how much they love passion fruit.
