Its been a while since I have posted.

Recently our sweet girl tweety has had issue with her grip strength, we have seen her fall off her perch.

We decided to take her to the vet ASAP.

We had her on some heart medication for a week but nothing much has changed.

She is currently with the vet and did some blood work and x rays.

X rays shows abnormality in her right ventricle and also something with her ovaries.

Has anyone ever had any experience or tips to how to deal with this situation.

I'm so sorry you and your fid are having to deal with this.

@Hankmacaw is very knowledgable on this kind of thing, so I'm sure she will have some advice.

You may want to pad the bottom of the cage and/or raise the bottom if it's a tall cage, so when Tweety falls she will have a soft landing. The special needs area of the forum might have some good cage modification ideas that you can apply to your situation.

I hope things will be OK with your cockatiel. How long are they keeping her for? What are their recommendations at this point?

She may have right ventricle occlusion. My Jasper has left ventricle occlusion, which is more rare. She has had significant heart issues since she was 6 1/2 years old when she was given to me. It was the result of a very bad diet from her previous owners. They gave her everything she wanted (ice cream, chips, bacon, cheese……..) and nothing that was good for her.

Jasper is now 26 years old and still on heart medications, but living a fairly good life. The result of her heart not pumping blood well for years has caused atherosclerosis and numerous other illnesses, but with good medical care, a strict diet and reasonable exercise she has lived a full life. Don't give up on your baby. She can be helped a lot with the right medications, dieting and lots of nursing by you.

It takes longer than a week for the heart medications to work and she will probably be on them for her lifetime. The doctors can probably determine what the problem is with her ovaries and fix that too.

Just stick in there with her and I wish you the very best and your girl too.

update:

doctor said:
low on calcium : given liquid calcium
white blood cell count high which most likely means infection: started antibiotics
heart medication
large ovaries which needs ultra sound but seems like shes too weak to do so much so she gave her an injection ...(forgot name) to help with it.

Will continue to visit her and bring Teddy along to keep her strong..

such a hard process to see her like that :( just breaks my heart

Sending more positive thoughts for Tweety. It is good that you go to visit. That is generally beneficial, IMO.

is currently with ultrasound x ray etc cant really isolate the source of the issue. they will feed her a liquid and do more xrays which will help see the shadows of abnormalities. with that done it will really find the source of the problem for them to tackle it directly. she does look a bit better with the meds so thats good!

Update: antibiotics are not really working, will be switching to a different type. fingers crossed.

Her energy level is there but the problem isnt going away.

going to keep her at the vet hospital as they will provide her with much better care for now.

please pray for tweety
