Congratulations to this month's Celebirdy, WendyN's Joey!
Here's what Wendy had to say:
1. How did you acquire your bird?
On a rainy November Friday, I made the trek on the Pacific Coast Highway to a exotic birds store in Santa Monica. I met Joey and wanted to bring him home with me. He was 8 months old at that time.
2. What is your bird's name, age and sex?
Joey is 5 years old and the store manager believed Joey was a male.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
He takes a couple of spins around then shakes my hand for a treat. He will also roll over onto his back.
4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
Joey likes papaya, sweet peppers, AO birdie breads, Birdeez soak and serve mash, apples, walnuts., free dried veggie mix from TNT.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
He gets so excited to watch Sesame Street and hops when all of the puppets are singing and dancing. One day, Joey grabbed a treat from his bowl and took it to the top of the cage to watched Sesame Street while snacking.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
He has taught me to be OK with the "agree-ables" and OK with the "un-agree-ables" of life. If he is hormonal and biting, it is OK. If he wants to play, it is even better. As my relationship with Joey evolves, I find my attitudes changing, allowing me to find a common ground where we can meet and share.
Sharing your life with a parrot changes you in a positive and most profound way.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
Do your research about the good and the bad about caiques.
Enjoy the YouTube videos about caiques having fun and doing cute things like hopping, dancing and talking. But also known that hormones will change their behavior and that will affect your relationship with him/her.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Joey is very active. But when he needs his nap, you must not disturb him.
He does morning, mid-day and evening vocalizations which are quite loud.
9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
He LOVEs Sesame Street.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
"What do we do?"
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Pine nuts!
