JADEN JALEN!!
1. How did you acquire your bird?
My female dusky conure, Riley Ryan, had passed away and I missed her as did my cockatiel who adored her but I decided not to get another Dusky. A few years later I changed my mind and went searching for one. I found a breeder I liked and selected a baby. Once weaned the baby was shipped to me from Virginia.
2. What is your bird's name, age and sex?
Jaden Jalen, 8 years old, Male
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
He likes to dip toy balls in water and then shake them over his head as if taking a shower. He can throw toy balls into a container although it's more fun to throw them off the top of the cage. He taps on the cage bars with his beak on command and sometimes accompanies this with sounds that match the pattern of the tapping.
4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
Corn kibble from his seed mix, cooked corn
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
He does lots of funny things but the funniest was probably when he moved cage papers around in his previous cage and created a tent.He would go in through the front of it and then come out from the back.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
I enjoy watching him and interacting with him. He makes me laugh and impresses me with his inquisitiveness, intelligence and ability to learn.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
They are generally quiet but there are exceptions like Jaden. They are very intelligent and can figure out how to take things apart, unknot knots and let themselves out of their cages.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
He's generally busy. When out of the cage he likes to run around the top of it and throw toy balls and other toys around. He also likes to go exploring so he needs to be supervised when he is out and about. He can get loud at times, although not as loud as my 'toos or my YNA. He can also chatter nonstop loudly for a LONG time.
9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
He gets scared by things on TV and then hides in his bed although he seems to watch programs like CSI. He likes to put toys and paper in his bed. He is nippy. He is very picky regarding what is put in his cage.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
When the phone rings and I answer it he frequently says, "It's the Grandmama." If I turned on the phone's speaker and he heard my mom talking he would say, "Hi Grandmama", but if it was anyone else he wouldn't say a word. If I walk past him carrying a package he will usually say, "That's for Jaden Jalen."
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Lafeber's parrot popcorn
