Its a great thing you got him in. Make sure the vet shows you how to give medicine and helps you do it for the first time. Little birds can be a pain in the butt feathers to medicate.

Cat bites to birds is like a venomous snake bite to people. Once they're bitten the "venom" (bacteria) will kill a bird in less than 24 hours. Bird starts out fluffy, then SUPER fluffy. Then falling off perches. Then staying at the bottom of the cage and looking like it will sleep. Then it continues to go down hill. So please make sure he is accepting that medication. The anti biotic is probably more important than the anti inflammatory, but both are important. But if you are able to get in the anti biotics first, that would be great to be sure he is getting that.

I hope he recovers quickly. I am so happy his wings didn't break with the bite. That was a close call!

Excellent that you were able to get Peach in and checked and that he is being medicated. Hope all will be well.

Good for you for taking him to the vet. Yes, Pasteurella Multicoda bacteria is real and prevalent in cats. Watch him closely and if he starts regressing get him back to the vet immediately.

Thanks for the advice. We are definitely keeping a close eye on Peach. What do you think I should look out for in terms of regression? He's been very quiet but he has eaten and had some water.

Thank goodness! How are you doing w/ giving the antibiotics? It would be a piece of cake for me now, but initially the 1st few times trying to figure out how to do it, were omgoodness & sheesh!

Don't be afraid to ask if you need help!

Thank you Rain!! It was actually pretty easy thankfully!! He didn't struggle as much as we thought. Might have had to do with the fact that one was banana flavoured and one was honey flavoured

I wish the vet had told me how to do it though because if I hadn't watched a video I could have seriously stuffed up!! I made sure to hold him upright and give it to him bit by bit and it went by without a hitch! Though I did discover the gap birds have under their beaks and freaked out a little until I realised it was normal

Just keep an eye on his behavior and if he doesn't improve day by day. If he just sits puffy get him back to the vet. Make sure he gets enough fluid and eats.

He may still be in a little shock from the attack - that's a life threatening experience.

Oh you were lucky that he takes it from you that way. The vet ha d shown me how to towel Buddy but I went to do the next dose & couldn't remember. I was still pretty scared of his beak @ the time & had just started step up training. I wasn't ready but he needed that medicine. Once I was sucessful, I knew what to do. In the meantime the first 3 or 4 doses were not full doses. Being as life threatening as your situation was... Without those full doses could be really bad!

I'm so very glad it worked out well for you both.

If you need anything feel free to send me a message, if I can't help, I can@ least send you to someone who can.

Thank you all so much!! I'm so glad I joined this forum everyone has been so fast and helpful with every question I've had

We had guests today and I noticed Peach sitting in the bottom of his cage. Do you guys think this is reason for concern? Or was he trying to find a quiet space? I'm definitely going to move him to a quiet room now. He's been eating and drinking like normal and seems more alert but he's still not chirping like he used to which is understandable I guess.

Anyone know how long it will be roughly before he's acting like his old self? It's sad and worrying seeing him all quiet. I get that it's normal considering the situation but still can't help but feel concerned and on edge a lot of the time.

Is he sitting on the bottom all of the time or just for short periods of time? What medication is he getting? Sometimes they have side effects such as lethargy and nausea. I hope he will be OK. Do contact the vet if he doesn't return to his normal self and if he remains on the bottom of the cage most of the time.
Is he eating and drinking?

Back to the vet and get him daily antibiotic shots. Much more effective than oral. I had to do that.

I am going to be honest, sitting at the bottom of his cage and not chirping is a sign that he needs to go back to the vet.

My parakeet was attacked by my cat this last summer. I took her to the vet and started to administer antibiotics. She never chirped again, and two weeks later she passed away. Granted, she was an old gal of 11, but the cat scratch didn't help, nor did the fact that I had no idea of what I was doing when giving her the meds.

Please take your baby back.
