Carpet Protection?

What do you guys use under your bird cages to protect the carpet from poop while they are playing on the top of their cages? I looked at Lowes for plastic mats, and what I found was perfect, except the size wasn't big enough. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

I used office carpet protectors. Larger sizes will cost more, so I'm including both sizes. The second doesn't have a lip.

Walmart sells clear vinyl by the yard in the fabric section.

Another option is linoleum scraps from a carpet store.

I just put newspaper down. Easy to then just throw away and put down new.

Scatter rugs I watch for them in clearance bins at target.

I use painter's drop cloths. They're canvas, so you can cut and hem them to the size you need. They're easy to clean too - just take outside for a shake and then throw them in the wash.
