Hi, all! I am momma to handsome Harley, a beautiful roller canary. We have had him for about 6 years, and are pretty sure he is 7 years old. Can anyone help me translate his leg band? We are curious about where he came from, and since he is kind of middle-aged for a canary, interested in finding a breeder to get a new bird from when the time comes. His band has the following on it: KBS, 263, 12, 012. Any help is much appreciated!

Not for a canary, no, no ideas, unfortunately.

Best ideas would be to contact the leg band manufacturers *AND* see if you can find a canary or softbill association that may have that information, or finding canary/softbill specific groups (Facebook?) that may have more information.

As far as age goes... well, I do recall someone who said they had a canary die short of his 20th birthday... so 7 years may not be all that old! ;) Granted, I don't think many tend to live past 6-10 years in age, in general.... so 20 is pretty geriatric!

    Hello

The last two numbers says 012 so 2012 was when he was born which fits in with what you have said. The ring can mean alsorts but mainly for the initial breeder with regard to their records and stock and for showing purposes.
