I have a bad case of poison ivy. I must have spread the oil around my home before realizing I'd even come in contact with the plant. I'm still breaking out in new places, a week after my first outbreak. This leads me to think I've got the oil spread around.

I've washed everything I can think of, and am hoping I got everything, my couch is my biggest worry as it's not something I can wash in my machine. I'm really hoping I didn't get in there. I did wash the throws that I nap with, that lie on it.

I'm hoping my birds are immune, I know dogs and cats don't catch it.

Anyone know anything about it?

Well I know if my dog goes running around in it I can get it from her.
I don't know if the birds can get it but if they got the oil off of you they could probably give it back to you. Sorry.

Humans are the only members of the animal kingdom afflicted by Rhus radicans, otherwise known as poison ivy. Although it's a nuisance to people, poison ivy is of considerable value for many animals such as deer and other small mammals. I feel for you Becky. I used to get such severe cases it went into my eyes and ears and mouth. Steroids are about the only true help for the itching.

Try this. Mine cleared up in a day. I was going to the doctor anyway but she could tell it was already clearing up.
Tecnu Extreme®Poison Ivy Scrub is a fast acting medicated poison ivy scrub that works in 15 seconds.

Thanks guys, I also did some researching and it does seem people are the only ones to feel it's pain. :(

I was worried what a bird that itched like crazy would do!

I've been taking prednisone, and it seems to be working. I've also got every topical treatment under the sun, from ivy scrub to ivy dry, to benadryl gel. The benadryl is what I'm liking best for topical use.

Zanfel is all that has worked for me. Very expensive but very effective. Stops the itching too for a while.

I think you need a prescription for it....and insurance I have not. I've heard it is good.

ouchie, i have been lucky in my lifetime to having it once. my boyfriend's brother brought back to our apt. we all ended up with it. Mark had it every where. i had in places that you should not have to itch. ended up going to the Dr because i was working and you can't scratch private places standing at cash register.
