I also agree with you Serin. I know Lovebirds are not Budgies but I just wanted to throw in my experience in here.
All of my Lovebirds have cage mates. The four Lovebirds that I raised and handfed live together in one cage and are siblings. They have been together ever since they were born and still they choose time with me over each other.
So I don't think introducing two birds together will make them not want to bond with you.
