I lost Buddy 3 months ago, but she was the best bird I ever had and I still miss her so. She woulld have been 15 years old this week. So I'm posting the poem I wrote for her, in honor of her "should have been" birthday.
Dear Buddy, your feathers are shiny and new.
You're no longer tired and cold.
You're ready to shred and build lots of nests
Because you are no longer old!
You flew off today to the Rainbow Bridge
Where you can soar high and free.
You'll play with the Lovies already there
While you patiently wait for me.
I'm glad you are healthy and playful again.
But I'll miss you each day, I will.
You've left a huge hole in my breaking heart
That I know I never can fill.
How did you cram into 63 grams
So much attitude, love, so much fun?
I don't want to believe that you're really gone;
That our years together are done.
But I know it was time, that you had to go.
You could no longer stay with me.
Thank you, sweet Buddy, you brightened my life
Spread your wings. Fly high. You are free!
