Hey guys!
As some of you know I want to get a life long feathered friend. Either a Green Cheeked Conure or a Cockatiel, I am currently living in Birmingham, UK and I'm finding some trouble finding a breeder. If any of you live here can you please tell me where I can find an efficient breeder. Thx.

Have you considered adopting from a rescue?

Yes, however there aren't many animal shelters with birds here in Birmingham. Majority of the shelters are based on cats and dogs, maybe hamsters, ferrets etc. So far I didn't find any with birds. :( It's sad how some people discriminate birds just because they need to earn trust before letting you cuddle and bond with them. Anyway if anyone lives in Birmingham and knows some breeders, animal rescues etc, let me know!

Do you have an avian vet in the area? This is important to know ahead of time.

I never really thought of it! There are so many things that are so easy to overlook when getting a bird. I'm glad I consulted the forum first, I'll check for avian vets in my area, maybe even call normal vets to see if they specialise in birds. Thx!

A very wise move to check with us experienced bird people here on AA. That alone will make you a good bird person.

Thx! This website is packed full of information, it helps a lot and even has a page for choosing your first parrot. The owners clearly take great pride in their birds and protect them at all costs, anyway thanks again! When I'm ready I'll send a form for adopting a bird, I think I might go for a cockatiel.

It is written they are moving and closed to new birds coming in. I hope this does not effect your adoption.
