Back from the vets with good news. She couldn't feel anymore eggs stuck inside & did have a good feel. Also said it's not a prolapse either. She said it's very unusual to bleed like that but it's likely to be as a result of passing the egg, it was hard for her to push it out.

She wiped the area with a pink antiseptic on cotton wool & has given me a tiny amount of antibiotics to give by syringe orally twice a day.

She explained she isn't a bird specialist but has experience more with pigeons & chickens, so if my budgie gets any worse she recommended another vet several towns away.

Still seems fine in herself but irritated scratching at her private area with feet & beek. Very sore looking & bloodied but not actively bleeding like yesterday. I don't know how she was still fine in herself after all the blood loss. Strong girl

It's great that she is feeling better and laid the egg. Very possible that another one will be laid shortly. Continue to monitor her closely.

I'm glad shes better! That egg must have been huge to cause that bleeding. Give her the meds, add calcium to her diet, and hope theres not another eggie cooking in there..

Yes but she has just laid a second egg
How did the vet not feel it yesterday?

She's not bleeding after this one but is wet there & still irritated so I've brought her back inside for a second night so she's warm.

No real interest shown in either eggs, is that strange?

Have the vet do an ultrasound to see if there are any eggs inside.

I could be wrong, I've never dealt with eggs, but I believe they don't sit on eggs until they are done hatching all of them.

I hope your budgie will be ok!!!

I have been following this story closely and I am so glad that the ending is a happy one.

She could be still itchy because it is healing. Too bad they can't make cones for little birds like they do for cats and dogs.

It's good that she is not bleeding after laying the second egg. Hope there won't be any more but I'm thinking that there might be one or two more on the way. Keep monitoring her and make sure she is getting adequate calcium. You can use supplemental calcium but you need to be careful with the amount. Does she have a cuttlebone or mineral block?

Please make sure you keep the mineral blocks and cuttlebone in her cage for her she is going to need it. It takes about 24 hours for an egg to form and be laid so that could be why she didn't feel anything. Also might want to take her with you when you take a shower. The humidity is good for her too and will make her feel better.

I'm glad she's better! After this experience, I'd make sure there are no nest boxes to encourage laying.
