May be a silly question but do birds "talk" in their sleep? Every night I check on my GCC before bed and every night he's making these little sounds. Almost reminds me of a cat purring. His cage is covered so I can't see him.

My GCC always talks to himself before bed :)
He says a few words, and various sounds such as clicks. It is funny to listen to actually.

Our birds "talk" in their sleep all the time...Milton is famous for it. There's a thread in Cockatoo Causeway about him talking in his sleep...;)

Rocky use to mumble himself to sleep. Sweet Pea chirps long after her blankie has covered her cage.

Valentine makes lots of noise when she goes to bed, sometimes I want to know what she is saying, NOT! I might not like what I hear:giggle:

My GCCs "purr" if I come in the room after lights out. It is the cutest sound. I always assumed it was kind of like a sleepy acknowledgement or flock call. Sort of, "Oh, its just you. We are fine."

My cockatiels all settle on high perches at bedtime and sleepily chirp a little before actually going to sleep. My GCC does purr, but I have always felt this was a self soothing sound for him as he has no cage mate. Emmie CAG talks to himself before he sleeps, sometimes quietly rehearsing sounds he discovered during the day, sometimes trying out new words. The Senegal and Redbellied just perch and I hear nothing from them. If I disturb the flock by entering the room, the tiels and budgies panic call and fly around in defense. They quickly land and settle themselves and go back to sleep, especially if I leave the room promptly. No repeat of the sleepy sounds then.
