Bird gravitate towards foliage?

It's nighttime here and in my dark living room my Amazon Chomsky seemed a bit nervous, he was reaching towards a leafy plant I have on top of a tall DVD cabinet, the cabinet is also in a bit of an alcove.
He relaxed instantly being near the plant, I opened the door to the cabinets and he's been stood there next to the plant for an hour.
Is this an instinctive safety reaction?
It was very cute.

ahhh sounds adorable. I figure whatever makes them happy as long as it won't harm them. Does he have a cover on his cage? maybe the plant made him feel he had a place to hide.

Do you think a cage cover would be good for him? Or a big plant next to his cage?

I believe they do. I mean, if humans who have lived in man-made houses in large cities for thousands of years feel better when in contact with nature, how could parrots, an undomesticated species only a few generations removed from their natural habitat not to?
